This Art-Deco inspired piece with its symmetrical step back motif is further enhanced by the rich natural color of African Mahogany and Peruvian Walnut. A pronounced coopered top cap with its vertical grain highlights the bold clean lines and contrasting woods.
Coopering is an age old art of crafting barrels from long slender slices of wood with angled sides called “staves.” When placed side by side the cooper could craft round objects like the hubs of wheels or barrels that were used for whiskey or as everyday shipping containers. We can use this technique to blend the vertical grain of the Mahogany, on the coopered cap, making it appear seamless. The door with a deep glass rabbet is assembled with a half-lapped joint for strength. Adjustable shelves give it versatility. Designed as a storage cabinet for the bath a simple change in the glass turns it into a display cabinet that can be used in any room.
